Scarlet sentinels, standing proudly, demand our attention. A symbol of both freedom and sacrifice. May we pause in gratitude for the service of so many who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom. May we offer help and support for those who came home facing both physical and mental challenges. Let us not forget the family's who struggle with the loss of those they love. Let our memorial be in stepping forward to help them however we can.
Values, Make Your Paintings POP
Pale and passed over.Not the least bit eye catching this stunning bloom is lost on this pale gray background. . The flower has a bit more zing when we use the compliment of yellow against pale purple ( (O.K. in this case pale mauve) as a backdrop. Still not a big winner, but much more visible. WOW look what happens when we throw in a true dark!!! Suddenly our flower comes to life. Studio Critic
Creating art is a solitary process. An excellent reason for many of us to have furry studio critics. Walking through the pigment, snoozing on paintings, drinking paint water; my cat's have done it all! Charcoal was destined to become an artists companion. Creating CAN-CAN
This voluptuous bloom was a creative challenge. I began with it's luscious pink centre. Hidden deeply, the heart of this flower is cast in deep shadows. Everything else in this piece was an exercise in negative painting. The crisp white shapes of this multi petal extravaganza are developed by the shadows. My approach to making shadows is different than many artists. Because shadows are translucent I work especially hard to allow the white of the paper to glow through. I wet the area of the shadow and then drop in multiple colours to give the illusion of the ...
